Abstract:
Two small prefabricated cemented assembly bridge pier specimens with the same geometric parameters were designed and made. Longitudinal dead load and increasing horizontal dead load were applied to these samples with the purpose to study failure process and failure types of the specimens under certain axial compression ratio. It was found that cementing joint strength was higher than the plain concrete strength and crack at the interface didn't develop along the diagonal direction of the bond but the surrounding concrete cracked. The final failure of the specimens was caused by crush of concrete under pressure. Plastic hinge was formed on the column bottom section of the specimen before the failure, and the specimens had obvious rigid rotation.
