Abstract:
Although this approach almost certainly led to "safe" designs, the behavior of stainless steel was not being taken into account and its desirable properties were not being fully exploited, which is lack of economy. In the paper, according to the investigation of the material behavior of stainless steel, the concept of stability critical point of stainless steel is proposed firstly, and the Stability Critical Point is considered as the new standard of strength design. Then, relating with the carbon steel design, three performance-design points are suggested for the demand of deformation. The results indicate that the design strength of each performance-design point, whose safety margin are sufficient, is improved effectively, comparing with the original design standard. For the better consideration of safe and economy, the designers can choose the right one from design points as the strength design by the deformation requirements.
