Abstract:
An experiment on axial compression of parallel strand bamboo column made from bottom part of original bamboo was carried out in the paper. All specimens were divided into three groups in accordance with slenderness ratio. Axial compression with a control velocity of 1 mm/min was acted at the top of specimens up to the failure. Two failure modes were observed,furthermore,load-displacement curves and load-strain curves in middle section of compressed columns were obtained. All specimens showed compressed and bended mode,the bearing capacity of specimens increases with the decreasing of slenderness ratio of specimens under the similar failure mode.
